How did I miss this one, Umi? Keep writing.

I looked at my copy of 'Pack of Lies' again the other night. I opened unexpectedly to the part where Ginny is talking with Bijou, one of my favorite scenes. What is so striking is the profundity you convey with such simple words dropped onto the page. As if all these little events in Ginny's life are like cigarettes she smokes addictively and discards. It makes for one amazing ash tray, worth going through slowly to study the lip prints left on each abandoned filter by Ginny's dishonest mouth.

It's perhaps her constant desire to prove herself worthy that results in her serial consumption of episodes and relationships, which are never enough for her to feel satisfied with herself and yet which leave the mark of a soul wise, accomplished, and sophisticated beyond her own reckoning. Ginny's fault as well as her virtue may be that she thinks of herself as so insignificant that everything she does takes on a significance far beyond the expectations of those she encounters. So she changes people's lives without intending to simply by underestimating herself. Others rise to the occasion or fall from the pedestals they have erected to stand on.

Just a guess. I may be wrong, but your book makes it fun to wonder.

I really enjoyed the Mumbai Book launch. Have been reading the book, and have about another fifty pages to go. An exciting read, that keeps you asking for more

I think the bouffants would've been fine ( I love the little picture you posted)--better yet--beehive hairdos. Those always fascinated me.
Keep blogging.
